Away in a Manger is a set of stand up figures that depict the birth of the Christ child in a small manger on the outskirts of Bethlehem. This is designed as a companion class for "We Three Kings" but it is not necessary to stitch both sets of figures as each set can be displayed independently of the other. Mary, Joseph, and the Christ child are each stitched as a separate stand alone figures. They are accented by a hinged backdrop "screen" depicting two sides of the walls of the stable.

The finished designs range in size from 4" x 4" to 6" x 11". The designs are stitched on gold flecked 18ct. Mono Canvas. Threads used include Splendor Silks, Kreinik Metallics, Ribbon Floss, Overdyed Floss, Memory Thread, and Burmilana. Class instruction includes the discussion of finishing solutions for all pieces.

The student is asked to supply 5 sets of stretcher bars: 2 - 10" x 14", 8" x 8", 8" x 9", and 7" x 12" as well as the usual stitching supplies, lighting, and magnification if needed. The kit includes all threads, beads, and attachments as well as photographs of the completed set.
